# Why is the Close button unavailable when attempting to close a position in MT5?

In MT5, the **Close** button can become temporarily unavailable for the following reasons:

* **Market freeze**: The market is in a brief halt, often during high volatility periods (common on XAUUSD).
* **Spread spike**: The spread has temporarily widened to a level that prevents order execution.
* **Terminal disconnection**: The MT5 terminal has briefly lost connection to the server.

To resolve this, try refreshing the chart, closing the position from the **Positions** tab, or restarting the MT5 application. Once the connection stabilizes and market conditions normalize, the Close button will become available again.
